Blackadder was a very successful U.K. comedy that ran through the 1980s and 1990s. It starred two actors, Rowan Atkinson, who played Blackadder (average height) and Tony Robinson, who played Baldrick (short). Rowan Atkinson is also known for his portrayal of Mr. Bean.
The relationship between Baldrick and Blackadder was one of the superior, cunning Blackadder, and his short, inferior, extremely stupid sidekick, Baldrick. Much of the comedy revolved around the height differences between them, the fact that Blackadder essentially had a license to treat Baldrick in exactly the way he wanted to because of his height. Inevitably, there would be a level of physical and mental abuse against which Baldrick would be defenseless. Baldrick was incredibly stupid, and the foil for Blackadder's superior wit.
