Helping short men to get a leg-up in fashion

Lou Brown is the owner of Brown's, a men's clothier in Toronto for short men. The store's tagline is "a short man's world." While Mr. Brown is a short man, he once aspired to the stars.

1. What's your dream job? What I'm doing now!

2. What's your least favourite sound at work?

Negative answers.

3.What was your previous job? Salesman in a woman's fur store at age 17.

4.What did you want to be as a kid? An astronomer. I was always fascinated by the stars and loved looking up at them. We used to go up to Halliburton when I was a kid and I just loved looking up at the sky.

5. Who do you most admire?

My dad, because he couldn't read or write, but became a successful entrepreneur.

6. What was your most satisfying moment at work? When I receive a thank-you from customers. I love to see a wife smiling because her husband looks good--because his clothes fit perfectly!

7. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

My dream job is to own a franchise or chain of fashion stores for short men.

8.What words or phrases do you most use at work?

"See you shortly."

9. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Starting a concept -- a clothing store for short men.

10. My philosophy of work is… "Mind the store." You can't and don't have to do everything-- you have to delegate. I believe in hiring people that are at least as smart as I am. I try to surround myself with intelligent people, those that I can learn from.
